GK MCQs and facts

KNOWLEDGE Knowledge is a familiarity with someone or something, which can include information, facts, descriptions, and/or skills acquired through experience or education. It can refer to the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject. It can be implicit (as with practical skill or expertise) or explicit (as with the theoretical understanding of a subject); and it can be more or less formal or systematic. In philosophy, the study of knowledge is called epistemology, and the philosopher Plato famously defined knowledge as "justified true belief." There is however no single agreed upon definition of knowledge, and there are numerous theories to explain it.  Knowledge acquisition involves complex cognitive processes: perception, learning, communication, association and reasoning; while knowledge is also said to be related to the capacity of acknowledgment in human beings. source : wiki Knowledge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A series of MCQs on GK  ...

How to reduce exam anxiety

Exam anxiety can be viewed in two different ways: * Ineffective coping with the inevitable stress of an exam BEFORE the exam; and/or *A strong emotional reaction of fear that interferes with thinking clearly DURING the exam. The most commonly reported symptoms are: Memory blocks or “blanking out” on things that you have studied; *Fear of failing before the exam is even written; *Physical symptoms such as rapid heart rate, shortness of breath, sweating, etc.; *Lower reading comprehension; and *Poor attention and inability to concentrate These symptoms can also appear as you study for exams. In order to overcome exam anxiety, you need to work on what you have control over when it comes to exams how you study, what you study, etc.), and not worry about what you can’t control (kinds of questions, number of questions, how other students perform, etc.). Exam Anxiety Tip 1 :  Be Prepared Early :  The most common cause of exam anxiety is lack of preparation

Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)

Inter-Services Intelligence . The Directorate for Inter-Services Intelligence (also Inter-Services Intelligence or ISI) is the largest and most powerful intelligence service in Pakistan. It is one of the three main branches of Pakistan's intelligence agencies. After the poor performance of Pakistan's Military Intelligence during Indo-Pakistani War of 1947 the need for a separate intelligence body was keenly felt. Inter-Services Intelligence was therefore created as an independent unit in 1948 from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), which handled intelligence sharing between the different branches of the military as well as external intelligence gathering. Its headquarters was initially located in Rawalpindi but later it was moved to the newly built capital, Islamabad. The current director of the organization is Lieutenant General Ashfaq Pervez Kiani. Often alleged to be an invisible force in Pakistani politics and countless incidents around the world, it is one of th...

Top tips on how to be a morning person

A pan-European survey of 11,000 people, commissioned by Philips Wake-up Light , has revealed that British people are among the grumpiest in Europe when it comes to waking up in the morning.  The research showed that 90% of us admit that we don't feel refreshed, alert (93%) or ready for the day (68%) first thing in the morning. Furthermore more than 70% of us admit to being negatively affected by darker mornings. One of the UK 's leading sleep experts, Dr. Neil Stanley , shares his advice on how you can help yourself become a morning person. Here are his top five tips for being a 'morning person': 1. Don't rely on coffee to wake you up. The caffeine content of coffee can vary greatly depending on where it's bought or how it's made. In the past, tests have shown that the average cup of coffee does not contain enough milligrams of caffeine to have any pick-me-up effect, so you may actually be getting no benefit at all from the coffee you convince yo...

JavaScript Popup Boxes

JavaScript has three kind of popup boxes: Alert box, Confirm box, and Prompt box. Alert Box An alert box is often used if you want to make sure information comes through to the user. When an alert box pops up, the user will have to click "OK" to proceed. Syntax alert(" sometext "); Example <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function show_alert() { alert("I am an alert box!"); } </script> </head> <body>

JavaScript Switch Statement

Conditional statements are used to perform different actions based on different conditions. The JavaScript Switch Statement Use the switch statement to select one of many blocks of code to be executed. Syntax switch(n) { case 1:   execute code block 1   break; case 2:   execute code block 2   break; default:   code to be executed if n is different from case 1 and 2 } This is how it works: First we have a single expression n (most often a variable), that is evaluated once. The value of the expression is then compared with the values for each case in the structure. If there is a match, the block of code associated with that case is executed. Use break to prevent the code from running into the next case automatically. Example

JavaScript If...Else Statements

Conditional statements are used to perform different actions based on different conditions. Conditional Statements Very often when you write code, you want to perform different actions for different decisions. You can use conditional statements in your code to do this. In JavaScript we have the following conditional statements: if statement - use this statement to execute some code only if a specified condition is true if...else statement - use this statement to execute some code if the condition is true and another code if the condition is false if...else if....else statement - use this statement to select one of many blocks of code to be executed switch statement - use this statement to select one of many blocks of code to be executed If Statement

HP, Dell overtake Nokia in Greenpeace rankings

While some consumer electronics manufacturers have cleaned up their act, making more energy- efficient gadgets with fewer toxic materials, others are continuing to make fine promises but no changes, according to Greenpeace. In response, the environmental pressure group is changing the way it scores companies in its Guide to Greener Electronics, placing more emphasis on their actions than their words, and measuring new aspects of their operations. The latest guide to greener PCs, TVs and mobile phones recognizes the efforts Hewlett-Packard and Dell have made to clean up their supply chain, catapulting them up the rankings, while Nokia has slipped back to third place after leading since September 2008. BlackBerry maker Research in Motion came in last place. HP scored 5.9 out of 10, the energy efficiency of its products and its avoidance of hazardous substances putting it well ahead of second-placed Dell, with 5.1 points, Nokia with 4.9 and Apple with 4.6.

Car tech: The connected car arrives

Automobile technology has become so advanced that today's cars are essentially computers with wheels. So why aren't we using them to surf the Web, communicate with other cars or order food at nearby restaurants?  We're well on our way. Current models of several cars, including the Ford Edge, the Audi A6 and the Lincoln MKX, can all connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi or 3G networks. These connections bring streaming audio and video, Twitter feeds, spoken text messages and current traffic information into the vehicle.  And that's just the beginning. In the near future, you'll be able to browse the Web and get Facebook updates on your in-car navigation screen. And in coming years, wireless standards such as dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) will help cars connect to one another and to the road infrastructure, communicating real-time road conditions and other helpful information.

JavaScript Comparison and Logical Operators

Comparison and Logical operators are used to test for true or false. Comparison Operators Comparison operators are used in logical statements to determine equality or difference between variables or values. Given that x=5 , the table below explains the comparison operators: Operator Description Example == is equal to x==8 is false x==5 is true === is exactly equal to (value and type) x===5 is true x==="5" is false != is not equal x!=8 is true > is greater than x>8 is false < is less than x<8 is true

JavaScript Operators

= is used to assign values. + is used to add values. The assignment operator = is used to assign values to JavaScript variables. The arithmetic operator + is used to add values together. y=5; z=2; x=y+z; The value of x, after the execution of the statements above, is 7. JavaScript Arithmetic Operators Arithmetic operators are used to perform arithmetic between variables and/or values. Given that y=5 , the table below explains the arithmetic operators: Operator Description Example Result + Addition x=y+2 x=7 y=5 - Subtraction x=y-2 x=3 y=5 * Multiplication x=y*2 x=10 y=5

JavaScript Variables

Variables are "containers" for storing information. Do You Remember Algebra From School? Do you remember algebra from school? x=5, y=6, z=x+y Do you remember that a letter (like x) could be used to hold a value (like 5), and that you could use the information above to calculate the value of z to be 11? These letters are called variables , and variables can be used to hold values (x=5) or expressions (z=x+y). JavaScript Variables As with algebra, JavaScript variables are used to hold values or expressions. A variable can have a short name, like x, or a more descriptive name, like carname. Rules for JavaScript variable names: Variable names are case sensitive (y and Y are two different variables) Variable names must begin with a letter or the underscore character

JavaScript Comments

JavaScript Comments Comments can be added to explain the JavaScript, or to make the code more readable. Single line comments start with //. The following example uses single line comments to explain the code: Example <script type="text/javascript"> // Write a heading document.write("<h1>This is a heading</h1>"); // Write two paragraphs: document.write("<p>This is a paragraph.</p>"); document.write("<p>This is another paragraph.</p>"); </script> JavaScript Multi-Line Comments

JavaScript Statements

avaScript is a sequence of statements to be executed by the browser. JavaScript is Case Sensitive Unlike HTML, JavaScript is case sensitive - therefore watch your capitalization closely when you write JavaScript statements, create or call variables, objects and functions. JavaScript Statements

JavaScript Where To

JavaScript in <body> The example below writes the current date into an existing <p> element when the page loads: Example <html> <body><h1>My First Web Page</h1> <p id="demo"></p> <script type="text/javascript"> document.getElementById("demo").innerHTML=Date(); </script> </body> </html>

Writing to The HTML Document

Writing to The HTML Document The example below writes a <p> element with current date information to the HTML document: Example <html> <body> <h1>My First Web Page</h1> <script type="text/javascript"> document.write("<p>" + Date() + "</p>"); </script>

JavaScript Introduction

JavaScript is the most popular scripting language on the internet, and works in all major browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Safari.
