
The actress went Rajasthan for an interaction as part of the Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for
Empowerment of Adolescent Girls (RSEAG)Encouraging the girls she said, "The cause of the girl child is very close to my heart. The woman power today cannot and should not be underestimated. I am here to teach rural India the value of a girl child. Almost 60% of the population is below 35 years of age and the power of the youth has to be harnessed."The scheme provides various facilities like nutritious food to all out-of-school girls aged between 11-18 years and 14-18 years. Counselling and guidance is provided to create awareness among the adolescent girls on subjects
ranging from life skill education, self-reliance and their rights to reproduction and sexual health, child care, family welfare and household management.
Priyanka went to an anganwadi and Mahila Empowerment Centre in Nanakpura
village, about 20 km from Jaipur, where she interacted with a group of girls.
"I want to study, didi, but do not know how," said Lalita Atal,16, who belongs to a village in Rajasthan, when she met Priyanka. The actress advise her to was, "Learn sewing, cooking, art and other courses to stand on your own feet and be a burden on no one."
