A SmartArt graphic enables you to represent information visually. It’s quick to create, as you can use predefined shapes and layouts. Before creating the graphic, analyze the information you want to represent, in order to decide what kind of graphic you’d like to create, such as a hierarchy diagram, a process diagram, a cycle diagram, and so on. You’ll also need to consider the amount of text you want to place in the graphic.
 
Once you have determined this, go to the Insert tab in Excel 2007. In the Illustrations group, click SmartArt. A dialog box will appear (Choose a SmartArt Graphic). Select the type and layout that you want here. To enter text in the graphic, you can click a shape in the graphic and type in text; or click [Text] in the Text pane and type in text; or copy text from another program, click [Text] and paste the text in the Text pane.
 
2.Customize the look of a SmartArt graphic in Excel 2007
 
If you’ve created a SmartArt graphic, you can change its color or apply styles such as 3D or line style to it.
 
To change the color of your graphic, click it and then click SmartArt Tools. Go the Design tab and the SmartArt Styles group and click Change Colors. Click the colors that you’d like for the graphic.
 
To apply some styles to the graphic, click it and then click SmartArt Tools. As before, navigate to the Design tab and SmartArt Styles group and click the style you’d like to apply. Click More to see additional styles.
 
3.Add a shape to an existing SmartArt graphic

A predefined SmartArt graphic may require some customization on your end, such as adding shapes. To do this, click the graphic and then click a shape in the graphic, closest to where you want to add the new shape.
 
Go to SmartArt Tools and then to the Design tab. Go to the Create Graphic group and click the arrow under Add Shape.
 
To add a shape at the same level as the selected shape but after it, click Add Shape After. Click Add Shape Before to insert a shape before the selected one, but at the same level.
 
To add a shape one level above the selected shape, click Add Shape Above. The new shape will take the position of the existing shape; the selected shape and all the others below it will move down one level each.
 
Similarly, to add a shape one level below the selected shape, click Add Shape Below. The new shape will be added at the end of the other shapes at the same level.
